THE CHARTERED INSTITUTE OF LOGISTICS AND TRANSPORT ESTABLISHES FUTURE LEADERS FORUM
The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Australia (CILTA) recently announced the development of The Future Leaders Forum established especially for younger people in the transport and logistics industry.
For some years the Institute has had a Young Professional group in a number of Sections. Representatives of the younger members met in Melbourne on 22nd July resolving that the “Young Professionals” concept should be broadened to include all young people seeking the opportunity for career development in the industry.
The group recognised the career opportunities for younger people in the transport and logistics industry, particularly with the projected growth in freight logistics over the next 15 years and the need to replace the experience of skilled people expected to exit the industry in the next few years.
Kerry Job, Western Australia’s representative chaired the full-day meeting with young group representatives from across the Institute:
NSW – Aaron Shelley
Northern NSW – James Griffiths
Victoria – Heidi Law and Sam Walker
Queensland - Beth Petersen
South Australia – Evan Knapp
Western Australia – Kerry Job
The group was also joined by Jessica Brocklebank of the Australian Logistics Council and Leah Davis of Mack Trucks Australia.
The Future Leaders Forum developed a number of key steps in the aim to provide nationwide career opportunities for younger people (under 35 years) in the transport and logistics industry with the focus on:
- Professional Development
- Networking
- Communications
- Membership growth
- Creating a positive image of the T&L industry
- National representation of the Future Leadership Program
The group will be involved in existing CILTA projects including the Leadership Program, the Careers Fair Project and the Mentoring Program.
The Future Leaders Forum will be represented on the National Council of CILTA and will also play a key role in the forthcoming CILTA/LAA Supply Chain Conference to be held in Perth on 16th & 17th November.
As a first step, the group is creating a data bank of Future Leaders. This information will help to identify people interested in the Future Leaders program as well as keeping these people up-to-date in terms of the program’s development. Interested persons should contact Kerry Job directly on 0400 240 831 or kjob@cliftonconey.com.
