NOVEMBER 2006
Chairman’s Update
As we head towards a rapid ending of this calendar year, I take a little time for reflection on the year "that was”. It has been a successful year for the ALC. We have confirmed our position as a meaningful and influential partnership between Australian governments, and leaders and customers of the Transport and Logistics sector. We have worked with industry leaders of all transport modes, across the supply chain to tackle issues of utmost importance. The Infrastructure Action Agenda, continuance of the well supported Careers Expos, T&L Industry Branding, finalisation after 18 months of the Retail Code of Conduct, progress on providing up-to-date industry data, are a few that come to mind. However, the clear challenge for 2007 will be to take the ALC to the next level of attainment and acceptance. The plans for 2007 are being formulated, bearing in mind comments from the last Council meeting in Perth. They will be presented to you at the Forum in February for sign-off. We must now build on the experience and outcomes of the past three years!
I take this opportunity to thank all Council Members for their support in many ways this year. We look forward to 2007 with confidence and commit to making it another year of significantly, practical achievement. I also wish Members and their family’s best wishes for the Yuletide season and a safe, happy, and prosperous 2007.
Best regards
Ivan F. Backman
